Historic Vote for or two villages

Tonight we had a extraordinary meeting to allow the villages decide if they wanted to Join into one Parish Council. As a keen supporter of a join/merger I am glad to report that both Impington and Histon supported with a majority.

Now the works proceeds to South Cambs District Council to go through the legal process.

Histon Feast. Another great community event

Another great day organised by the Histon Feast committee.

Great weather and a great turn out.

The Anglia Youth Band of the Salvation Army put on a great performance during the parade and then a great witness at Tesco’s corner.

I caught the sun during the march as well as doing a large bbq for the band which as always goes down well.

Rec Play area now open

Finally the Recreation Ground Play Area has opened.

Since June I have been so pleased to see many people down playing on the play area.

Thanks goes to all the team that helped bring this fantastic play space to being. A lot of effort but a project well done. Hoping we can try and get soming done at the Green end of the village. I you would like to help feel free to email.

Just over a week to go…Rec opening 13th June

With just over a week to go the new Rec Play are will be opened.

Please get your programme for the day at only £2.00 it will tell you all what has been planned.

It is also something to keep to remember what has been done in such a short space of time on the rec.

Preparing for Monday’s Rec Preview

Spent a good hour today with other members of the project group making the site good before we open for the preview opening on Monday 3rd May 2010.

The park was looking good today however we could do with some rain to aid the grass germination as it is all very dry.

Here I am making sure any glass that had come up after being dug over is picked up.

Sam and Myself plant a new Tree at the Rec…

It was a Family planting day at the Recreation ground(3rd April 2010 ) and I took Sam to help with the planting.

Well what can I say he loves helping out with anything like this and he did really well…It took us both several hours to dig the really large hole to put the new tree into…

All I can say is that I was not the only one to take this length of time and it was a good job we had plenty of people around to dig holes for the other trees.

The play area is coming on really well and when you are actually in the play area it’self you realise how big it is.. The equipment is looking really good and it will be great to see our younger generations using the facilities.

The play area will be officially opened on the 13th June with lots to do on the rec as it will also be the Rec fun day,,,one for the diary.

Another hotel for Orchard Park

Travelodge, the budget hotel chain, has submitted plans to build a 138 bed hotel at Orchard Park between Chieftain Way and the A14.

Plans submitted to South Cambs District Council include a bar and a restaurant, parking for 118 cars and 20 cycle spaces. It would be the second hotel on the development; there is already a Premier Inn with 154 beds.

The Community Council has welcomed the plans because the new building would be an acoustic barrier and would shield properties in the development from the noises of the A14. It will also provide jobs (12 full-time and 32 part-time) and be an amenity for local residents.

Edd is also positive. He said: ‘there are many positives from this development. However I am concerned about the traffic which it will bring to Orchard Park; there are already problems with on-street parking and these need to be addressed. I also hope that we will see some movement with respect to the commercial centre which received planning permission last year’

New playground at the Rec.

There will be a soft opening of the new playground at the Rec, Monday 3 May 10. Click here for a leaflet about the event.

The new playground has been financed with money from the government’s Play Pathfinder Scheme, Donarbon and Friends of the Rec along with community business sponsorship. The project has got the full support of both the Histon and Impington Parish Councils.

Edd Stonham, who is a Histon Parish Councillor and a member of the project group which has made this happen, says ‘This is a super new facility for our villages. I am delighted that it will soon be ready. It will be officially opened for use on the 13th June.’

Edd Stonham selected as Lib Dem candidate

Edd Stonham has been selected as the Lib dem candidate for the Histon and Impington ward, which also includes the Meadows and Orchard Park, in the forthcoming South Cambs District Council election.

Edd lives in Histon. He is a member of Histon Parish Council, plays in a local brass band and is vice-chair of a local history group.

Most recently Edd has been working hard as a part of a group to deliver a new playground at the Rec in Impington.
