My playing Career started at The Salvation Army, Histon in the early 1980′s taught by Bandmaster Robert Carmichael and my father (A professional player in the Cold Stream Guards bands and Royal electrical and Mechanical Engineers band)

In the 1989 I was a member of The Salvation Army’s East London youth band(led by Max Weaver) for about 8months before moving back to Cambridge. During 1990 I applied to be a member of The Salvation Army’s East Midlands youth band (led by Mike Kirk) and played 1st horn until the band was disbanded when the Salvation Army re-arranged the divisions.

In 1996 I was then asked to play for The Salvation Army’s Eastern Counties Youth band, which was then renamed Anglia Youth band(Led by Matthew Peek) again playing 1st horn. During my 14months with the band I became band librarian, I left the band near the end of 1997 due to work and family commitments.

Band Practice was great this week…

A few movers so we have a new 2nd horn player… and a few less cornets infact the band seemed more of a round sound this week.

We do need to start playing to dynamics but I am sure we can all learn not to BLAST out sections we like playing.

Anyway good practice missed the drums.

Went in to Huntingdon town centre today basically to get some bits and also wanted to see if I could pick up a last bargin at Woolworths however it had closed early as everything had been sold right down to the kithchen sink in the staff room it seems.

It was a shame to see that it was the last trading day for Woolworths

I purchase my 1st ever single from Woolworths back when they were 7″ vinyl

In the days of my DJ’ing I used to do a weekly trip down to Woolworths to make sure we had every hit in the top 30…. which we managed to do for about 4 years..(you do not know how many Singles that can build up over that period of time).

I always remember getting the yearly trip with parents and grandparents to get a uniform for school.

We even purchase some of Sams school uniform from them this year amazing how this tradition will cease as of today…must have been many families throughout the last 100 years.

Anyway a sad day for the highstreet.

Good bye Woolworth’s
